Facebook share preview
See how your link looks when it’s shared on Facebook: image, title, description and domain — and why Facebook sometimes picks the wrong picture.
This is what people see on Facebook
- og:image found and reachable
- Image is 800×800 — Facebook crops it to 1.91:1
- og:url points to another page — Facebook shows that page’s preview
- og:title is 34 characters
How Facebook builds a link preview
Tags Facebook reads
og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url. If og:url points to another page, Facebook shows the preview of that page.
Image size
1200×630 (1.91:1) recommended, at least 600×315 for the large card, up to 8 MB. Smaller images show as a thumbnail.
Cache
Facebook keeps a preview after the first share. Scrape Again in the Sharing Debugger refreshes it.
Why does Facebook show the wrong image?
Usually the page has two og:image tags — a theme and an SEO plugin both add one — or og:url points to another page. The check above tells you which.
How do I refresh an old preview?
Open the URL in Facebook’s Sharing Debugger and press Scrape Again, or change the image URL.
Why is my image cropped?
Facebook shows link images at 1.91:1, so a square or tall image loses its top and bottom. Use a 1200×630 image.
