Link preview analytics: see what your shares bring
Find out how often X, LinkedIn, Telegram and Slack show your link, how many visits each share brings, and whether a new preview design brought more.
Four answers for every link you share
Per page, per platform, per design. Pick 7, 30 or 90 days and compare with the period before.
Preview fetches by platform
Each time X, LinkedIn, Telegram or Slack loads your image to build a preview. You see where your links travel, even without the script.
Visits from shares, per page and platform
People who came to a page from a social network or a messenger. Spot the posts that travel, and the ones read a lot but rarely shared.
Design impact
Visits from shares per day before and after a design went live. The chart marks the day, so you know whether the new preview earned its place.
First shares ready
How many pages already had their own image the first time someone shared them, and which ones went out with your general image instead.
Three steps, then it fills in on its own
Step 1: Add your image tags
Connect your site the usual way: the WordPress snippet, a Ghost key, or the og:image tag. Preview fetches start counting with the first share.
<meta property="og:image" content="https://getwowimg.com/…">Step 2: Add one script line
Paste it next to the image tags. On WordPress, the snippet in Add to site includes it while “Track visits from shares” is on. It counts visits and tells which came from a share.
<script async src="https://getwowimg.com/v.js" data-site="a1b2c3d4e5"></script>Step 3: Share — analytics fills in
Post your links as usual. Fetches and visits appear in your dashboard by page, platform and design.
- X
- Telegram
- Slack
A side effect you’ll like: the first visit to a new page — usually you, opening your fresh post — prepares that page’s image. So the very first share already shows it, not your general image.
Counts visits, not people
The script sends four things per visit and nothing that points to a person.
What we collect
- The page path/blog/launch-week
- The site the visitor came fromx.com
- utm_source, if the link has onenewsletter
- Whether the link carried a Facebook click idyes / no
What we don’t
- No cookies
- No IP addresses stored
- No visitor IDs
- No cross-site tracking
Visits are counted, not visitors: the same person opening a post twice is two visits.
Is “visits per share” a click-through rate?
No. A click-through rate needs impressions — how many people saw the post — and X, LinkedIn and the others don’t share that. We divide visits from a platform by that platform’s preview fetches. It’s a steady way to compare pages and designs with each other, not a CTR.
Does the script slow my site down?
It loads async, so your page doesn’t wait for it, and it weighs a few hundred bytes. It sends one small request per visit.
Do I need a cookie banner for it?
The script sets no cookies, assigns no visitor ID and stores no IP addresses. Whether your site needs a banner depends on everything else it runs and where your visitors are, so check your own legal requirements.
What if a visitor blocks the script?
That visit isn’t counted and nothing on your page breaks. Preview fetches are still counted: they come from the platforms to our image server, not from the visitor’s browser. On WordPress, a 1-pixel fallback also counts visitors with JavaScript turned off.
Which plans include it?
Visit analytics is part of every plan: Free, Indie, Pro and Agency. Visits by platform and by page, and design impact, come with Pro and Agency. See Pricing for what each plan includes.
