X card preview
See exactly how your link will look in a post on X (Twitter) — before you post. X removed the preview from its own Card Validator, so this is the quickest way to check.
This is what people see on X
- twitter:card is summary_large_image
- No twitter:image — falls back to og:image
- og:image is 800×800 — will be cropped to 2:1
- Title is 52 characters
How X builds a link preview
Tags X reads
twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:image. If a twitter: tag is missing, X uses the og: one.
Image size
Large card: 2:1, at least 300×157, up to 4096×4096 and 5 MB. 1200×630 works.
Cache
X keeps a card for about a week. Changing the image URL is the fastest way to refresh it.
Why does X show a small card?
The page has twitter:card = summary or no image big enough for the large card. Use summary_large_image and a 1200×630 image.
Where did the Card Validator go?
X removed the preview from it in 2022. Use this page or post to a private account.
My new image doesn’t show.
